“I have experienced a life in this book that is unlike my own, but the clarity of the story invades and teaches while the recipes offer loving nourishment. I am content to have been in the hands of an excellent teacher who has learned from her experiences and who has lovingly transferred her insights into this book.” Deirdre B. Kramer, Dean, Graduate School of Education, Hamline University.

“Pruden laces strength with vulnerability and an indomitable spirit, as her ancestors’ life stories become her own. As we relive our own family histories through her recollections of their struggle to survive, their passion and pain, food becomes a metaphor for survival and nourishment of both the body and soul.” Randee LaSalle, baby boomer and retired special education coordinator

“Linda’s book is nothing short of delicious. She has taken the ingredients of her family history and mixed them together in a way that you feel like you can taste the flavors and smell the aroma of lives well lived. This is a book that I may need two copies of, one for my kitchen, and one for my book shelves.” Litahni Coleman, CTC owner of ChangeMakerInc.com

I have to admit a bias to this book, having grown up with the author. Linda and I grew up in the same small town and went to school together grades 1 through 12. Linda shared drafts of this book with me as she worked on it over several years. She put her heart and soul into it. The book tells the story of her family and struggles they and she had through the years, but the story is told as warmly and sweetly as the wonderful recipes she weaves through her story-telling, recipes from her mother, grandmothers, and other family members. Her mother was famous for her wonderful cooking in our small town, so it came as no surprise that a big part of Linda's upbringing is centered around the wonderful foods she grew up with. Linda uses these wonderful foods and their memories to hold and bind the core strength and love that has endured all these years in her family. Linda's parents and siblings were exceptional people, hardworking, honest, respected. At a time when mental illness was not talked about, many of us, even close friends, had no idea of the struggles of this family, as the kids put on a brave face, did well in school, were active in many school activities, and worked hard in the community. I am so proud to call this author my childhood friend and I am equally proud of this book she has written. She has accomplished much in her life, but this book is definitely the whip cream on her creme puff!
